Spice Rubbed Tri-Tip Steak

Spice Rubbed Tri-Tip Steak


  • 2 Tri-tip steaks, about 1 1/2 - 2 pounds each
  • 2 tbsp Ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp Garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp Onion powder
  • 2 tbsp Ground cumin
  • 2 tbsp Smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsp Ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Lime zest


  1. Combine all of the spices in a large bowl.
  2. Dip each steak into the rub and evenly coat all sides. Refrigerate and let marinate for 1-3 hours.
  3. Preheat a grill until hot.
  4. Season steaks with coarse salt and grill over the open fire for about 3-4 minutes on each side. Continue cooking a few minutes per side until desired doneness is reached.
  5. Let the steaks rest 5-10 minutes before slicing against the grain into thin strips.
