Indian Masala Chai

Ingredients

Drink
  • 1 1/3 cup Water
  • 2/3 cup Milk
  • 1 inch Ginger, grated
  • 3 tsp Tea leaves
  • 2 tsp Sugar
Spices
  • 2 Green cardamom
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1/2 inch Cinnamon stick
  • 8 Black peppercorns

Instructions

  1. Heat water in a pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Meanwhile, crush spices using a mortar and pestle or a coffee/spice grinder. Or use 1/2 tsp prepared chai blend.
  3. Add the crushed spices and grated ginger to the water.
  4. Reduce heat to medium and bring to a boil.
  5. Add the tea leaves and sugar and let it boil for a minute.
  6. Stir in the milk and bring back to a boil.
  7. Once it’s boiling, turn off the heat and cover with a lid for one minute.
  8. Strain the tea into a cup.
