During the month of December, the Young Professionals Committee of Hudson Valley helped to collect toys “ranging from remote-controlled cars, board games, stuffed animals, art supplies and much more thanks to the generosity of chamber members and the community.”

Adams donated the van that was used to deliver the nearly 400 toys to Astor for Christmas.

“Adams offered Mallet a position with the family owned company 14 years ago, accepting it was a decision she says was the best move she ever made. ‘I’ve seen Adams grow and am working with an amazing family. They’ve gotten a boost from Adams Fairacre Farms who stocks their product for their locally minded customers.

“Quantities doubling, tripling in some cases, because, of course, consumers buying from them are catching onto that trend as well,” said cheese maker Colin McGrath of Sprout Creek Farm.

“We love our local farmers because we are getting the best quality and the freshest ingredients as we need it, right to the store,” said Adams Fairacre Farms cheese associate Debbie Decker.

The public works crew and I planted 150 trees around the city of Ithaca, New York. We planted half of them in spring, half in fall. We chose three tree species (an oak, hackberry, and American hophornbeam) that have historically been described as “hard to transplant” or “fall transplant hazards.”

Measurements over many subsequent years showed that the ones dug from the field nursery and planted—i.e., transplanted—in fall did just as well as the ones transplanted in spring, defying nursery lore about the perils of fall transplanting—at least for these three species. For a wide range of species, my adviser had observed anecdotally in her decades of planting trees in Ithaca that fall transplanting was just fine.
