How to Grow Lemon Verbena

Plant in rich, loose, well-drained soil in full sun after danger of frost has passed. If planting in a container, choose one that is at least 12” in diameter to allow room for the roots to spread. Fertilize regularly, as lemon verbena is a heavy feeder. Pinch the tips of the stems to keep the plant bushy, but don’t throw them away – these aromatic leaves can be used to freshen a clothes drawer.

Lemon Verbena is not hardy for our area, so bring the plant indoors before cold weather arrives, or wait until a cold snap causes the leaves to drop (this is when the plant becomes dormant). Avoid over watering dormant (leafless) plants.
