Harvesting, Drying & Storing Oregano


Like most herbs Oregano’s flavor is the best when harvested right before flowering. Harvest the Oregano in the morning right after the dew has dried. Pinch off right above a pair of leaves, you can begin harvesting when the plant is about 4-8 inches tall. Pruning or harvesting at least twice a season will keep the plant bushy.


Drying oregano is easy. Dry the leaves while on the stem. After the plant has completely dried you can then pull off and crumble the leaves. Refer to How to Dry Herbs for instructions.

After drying store in an airtight container is a dark dry place.
